Happy Birthday Excel
A very special event was celebrated by Microsoft recently. One of their flagship programs, Microsoft Excel, has been in use for 25 years. Hard to believe, isn’t it? Not many computer programs can last for a quarter of a century and still be going stronger than ever.
Over the years Excel has helped millions of people over the world, from simple tasks such as keeping track of bills to more advanced ones like filtering hundreds of pages of mined data. It can be used in the home, the office, community organisations, on a roof (if you’re that way inclined), and on the go. Just about anywhere really.
So from us here at Gravity Computing we’d like to say Happy Birthday Excel. Have one on us. To personally wish Excel a Happy Birthday, head along to the Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/microsoftexcel?v=app_7146470109

Find the number of days in the current month.
This came about when I worked on a FTE reporting project that required to use the number of remaining days in the current month in Excel.
The challenge was to find the number of days in the current month. Some months have 30 or 31 and February has either 28 or 29 days.
The function I used to achieve this :
=DAY(DATE(YEAR(NOW()),MONTH(NOW())+1,1)-1)
Which when subtracted from Now() in terms of days provides the remaining days left in the current month.
